Partake in a Dream
Set in Chris' backyard oasis, is a psychedelic journey of growth and beauty. The song is heavy and light and comes on in waves much like the psychedelic qualities it is inspired by. From the swimming koi fish to the growing plants and the colours that seem to bleed and cry it's a real visual treat. Chris can fill you in on all of the details but I remember it starting off as a riff and some lyrics he had been playing around with. We were in his old bedroom downstairs at his parents' house and were jamming it together. He wanted a second guitar part to fit with his riff and before long we had worked it out together. Then when it came time for a change up he wasn't exactly sure where to go. I fooled around with some chords and some ideas and we eventually came up with the bridge. After that session the harmonies kind of fell into place and we even made an early recording of it when we went out east the first time in the summer of 2014 with his brother Dave. We happened upon the owner of a beautiful private studio near Summerside, PEI through a series of events. Out of the four songs we tried out that day Partake in a Dream turned out to be one of the best we laid down (live off the floor too). I still like that recording and listen to it sometimes, not to mention it's constantly being played on CKDJ 107.9. Apparently it had been a local 'hit' during the later months of 2014. It's one of the first songs Chris and I somewhat co-wrote and I was happy to have made a contribution to this interesting trip of a song.
