My Kind of Girl:
Bram and I were hanging out one night in February (2015) making smoothies and jamming. Bram always wants to work on new material so I had been showing him a few back-pocket tunes. One of these tunes I was in the middle of working out happened to be 'My Kind of Girl'. I remember having most of the words done and I was asking him what he thought about the structure of the song and other things to do with the music itself. He liked it and came up with this groovy walking bass line on the spot. We were talking about different ways it could go when I realised I was missing a pretty key part of the set up for the hook, much like Catching Up. We were both thinking of different words when Bram said 'better man'. I knew that nothing else would top the simplicity and context of those two words in that particular gap. Bram helped me finish the lyrics and the whole band jammed the song a few days later. The song changed quite a bit when the band got together. It got heavier and a lot better in my opinion.
